Scholastic Art Awards Program Sponsorship
Moves from Arts Council to RIT
The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester is transferring the regional sponsorship of the Rochester-Finger Lakes Scholastic Art Awards and Exhibition to Rochester Institute of Technology, effective for the 1999-2000 program.
Scholastics is a national exhibition and awards program for secondary school students. The Rochester-Finger Lakes region encompasses 10 counties in central and western New York.
The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester managed the Scholastics program between 1993 and 1999. The principal corporate sponsor was Chase Manhattan Bank, which invested over $150,000 in the program over the six-year period.
Sally Gaskill, Executive Director of the Arts Council, said, "We are proud of the way that the Arts Council developed and strengthened the program over the last six years. We are delighted that RIT's School of Imaging Arts and Sciences has agreed to take on this important community resource."
In reviewing the Arts Council's strategic plan, the Arts Council board of directors determined that, after stabilizing the program, it was time to find a new sponsor. According to Peter Giopulos, President of the Board, "RIT was overwhelmingly our first choice."
The Scholastics show will open January 3, 2000 at RIT's Bevier Gallery.
