Arts Council to Commission Arts Award from Local Artist
The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester will commission a local artist to create an award for the 2000 honorees of the Arts Council's Arts Awards. The Arts Council annually recognizes outstanding contributions in the arts in five categories: individual, business or foundation, cultural organization, artist and special citations.
Artists in all media and disciplines are invited to submit proposals to produce an award in an edition of five. The selected work could be a poem, musical composition, or work of visual art. Selection of a design will be made by jury. No restrictions are placed on theme or personal expression. Artists' proposals must be received at the Arts Council by 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2000. Expenses and fees may not exceed $1,500.
In 1999, the Arts Council commissioned metalsmith Tom Markusen of Kendall, NY to create five metal wall reliefs, and in 1998, commissioned Mary Ann Scarborough of Holley, NY to create six small silk quilts, individualized for each award recipient.
For further information, application form and guidelines, contact the Arts Council at (716) 473-4000 or send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Arts Council, 277 North Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14607.
