Community Arts Grants

Two funds are available:

1) NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS DECENTRALIZATION FUND.
This fund (approximately $75,000 to $85,000) supports nonprofit organizations or artists in Monroe County for arts related programs that serve Monroe County residents and
2)ROCHESTER AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - COMMUNITY ARTS FUND.er $300,000 in Monroe, Wayne, Ont
This fund (approximately $21,000) supports capacity-building projects for cultural organizations with budgets undario, Livingston, Genesee, or Orleans County.

2005 COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS
New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Fund (DEC) Grants

DEC Grants are made possible with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts and the New York State Legislature. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for nonprofit organizations in Monroe County for public cultural programming that serves Monroe County residents. This year’s grants total $61,664 to 21 organizations.

DEC Grants

Arts Reach, Inc., $3,800 for development of a youth-run music production company.

Asian-Pacific Islander American History Project, $2,500 for events celebrating Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month.

Brighton Symphony Orchestra, $3,350 to perform a series of eleven orchestral concerts at accessible sites around Rochester.

The Corner Place, Inc., $4,000 to offer a free summer arts program to children ages pre-school through teen in the Upper Monroe/Swillburg neighborhoods.

The Commission Project, $3,600 to bring professional composers into six urban and suburban public schools to work directly with students.

Dance Rochester! Ltd., $3,000 for a choreographic and live performance using original compositions by local choreographers and composers.

Gay Alliance of Genesee Valley, $4,000 for post-production of Reflections on a Rainbow, a video documentary on the history of the gay community in Rochester.

Genesee Center for the Arts & Education, $3,800 for a summer youth arts program.

Genesee Valley Audubon Society, $3,500 to combine arts and environmental events that encourage environmental awareness and volunteerism.

Greater Rochester Repertory Coompanies, Inc., $3,500 for production of Portraits, an original musical review by local composer/lyricist Mark DeWaters.

Hallmark Danceworks, $3,500 to allow five dance companies to produce a spring dance series, provide fieldwork for new choreographers, and offer master classes.

Krakow-Rochester Sister Cities Committee, Inc., $1,500 for Sunday afternoon “Polka Party” at the Eisenhart Auditorium of the Rochester Museum & Science Center and featuring the dance and music of Poland.

Madrigalia, $1,130 for performance of a professional string ensemble for collaboration.

Montgomery Neighborhood Center, Inc., $4,500 for The Kuumba Artists Collective, to provide arts residencies and studio space to artists who will offer free, public art classes at the neighborhood center.

Moonbeam2earth Project, Inc., $1,500 for a performance by students from Holy Rosary Elementary for children at Volunteers of America.

Park Avenue Repertory Dance Co., $1,200 for contemporary and classical jazz master classes by artists from Toronto and Rochester.

Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Inc., $2,000 for an outreach concert with AKOMA gospel choir scheduled for December, 2005.

Rochester Chamber Orchestra, $2,000 for the Lilac Festival Concert With Many Voices featuring the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Bach Children’s Chorus of Nazareth College, Rochester’s Taiwanese Choral Society and local musicians.

Rochester West Indian Festival Organization, $3,200 to host two workshops to showcase Caribbean culture and to fund a performance of the Caribbean band, Cloud IX.

Samaritan Women, Inc., $1,232 to introduce inner-city students to Rochester cultural institutions.

Sojourner House, $4,852 for Saturdays at Sojourner, which provides at-risk children with weekly lessons in the arts.

Capacity Building Grants in collaboration with Rochester Area Community Foundation

The Capacity Building Grants program, intended to support projects that enhance the long-term growth and vitality of an organization, is administered by the Arts & Cultural Council and made possible by Rochester Area Community Foundation. These grants are for nonprofit cultural organizations with budgets under $400,000 in Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Livingston, Genesee or Orleans County. A total of $25,000 was awarded to eight organizations.

Borinquen Dance Theatre, Inc., $3,000 to develop a strategic marketing plan.

The Commission Project, Inc., $4,000 to create and print new communication and publicity materials to expand visibility and increase music education programs

Friends of Ganondagan, Inc., $4,015 to hire a business consultant to develop a comprehensive business plan that includes staff and volunteer training.

High Falls Film Festival, Inc., $4,000 to develop a web site to include online ticketing printed directly by patrons to better serve audiences and increase sales.

Mercury Opera Rochester, $3,955 to hire a marketing consultant to improve audience awareness, development, and fundraising.

Off-Monroe Players, Inc., $570 to purchase musical scores and parts.

Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Inc., $4,472 to purchase a printer/scanner/copier.

Weavers’ Guild of Rochester, $988 to purchase a laptop computer and LCD for teaching weaving.
