Start-up Resource Awards offer targeted assistance for emerging companies owned by women, minorities and persons with disabilities. Qualified small business owners or nonprofit organizations will receive at least 10 hours of free service to address their most critical needs. The deadline is once a year.

The urban league's Business Development Division provides a training, counseling and mentoring services to help minorities, women, dislocated workers and others start and/or expand businesses. The program offers information about national and local resources to meet constituent needs. It supports programs and policies that help minority and women entrepreneurs become full partners in the national and global economies.

The Service Corps of Retired Executives Association (SCORE)
Sponsored by the U. S. Small Business Administration, SCORE is a nationwide nonprofit association providing free business counseling. It has over 100 retired and active executives in the Rochester area who volunteer to share their skills with small business owners. The following are the local branches:
